Frances Bodomo’s enigmatic short film, Boneshaker, is now available on Nowness.
What initially drew me to this film was my own journey with religion and spirituality. Religion was instilled upon me at such young age and even though I didn’t entirely understand, I knew that it was expected to heal.
In Boneshaker, a young girl played by Quvenzhané Wallis is taken to a church by her parents with the hopes of banishing the evil spirits inside of her. The focus of Boneshaker are “ the feelings of homelessness, landlessness, and rootlessness that often accompany immigration.”
